My name is Karen Cunliffe, and I am a qualified counsellor dedicated to helping adults and young people find emotional balance and wellbeing, through both short-term and long-term therapeutic support, available in person and online.
Life naturally brings periods of imbalance - there are times when we feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about our path forward. As your therapeutic partner, I provide a confidential, non-judgemental and open space where you can reconnect with your inner wisdom, restore emotional balance, and cultivate lasting wellbeing. Together, we'll explore new ways of being that look at both your challenges and your capacity for resilience, growth and healing.

In our work together, you'll have the opportunity to examine your life experiences within a safe, confidential environment alongside someone who sits outside your day to day life. This therapeutic alliance allows for fresh perspectives to emerge, supporting you in achieving greater emotional equilibrium, enhanced wellbeing, and deeper self-understanding. Rather than offering quick fixes, I work to support you to discover your own sustainable path to balance and fulfillment.
I welcome individuals from all backgrounds - adults and young people (aged 18 upwards) who are seeking to restore harmony in their lives. As a fully qualified counsellor and member of both the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, I maintain the highest ethical and professional standards in all therapeutic relationships.
Therapy sessions provide a time and place where you can be heard with genuine empathy, sensitivity, and complete acceptance. In the safety of our sessions, thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and confidentially, allowing your authentic self to emerge.
Whether you're navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, self-doubt, grief and loss, mood fluctuations, anxiety or depression, these experiences can disrupt how you feel about yourself and how you are dealing with difficult and challenging feelings and behaviours.They can also impact our overall wellbeing and our ability to manage our normal day-to-day life. Therapeutic work offers you practical tools and deeper insights to understand what underlies these challenges and how you can move toward greater balance, understanding, self-acceptance and resilience in your daily life.
Through our collaborative therapeutic relationship, you'll gain clearer insight into your patterns, understand your responses more deeply, and discover choices that align with your values and desired outcomes - creating a more balanced and fulfilling way of living.
I support individuals seeking balance across a wide spectrum of life experiences, including:

In person - I currently work across Kent, East Sussex and Online. I see clients in person in Rainham and Maidstone in Kent. From December 2025, in person sessions will be available in East Sussex. I am presently available to offer flexible sessions online.
When possible, I can sometimes arrange sessions in locations that may better serve your needs - we'll discuss what may work best as part of your initial consultation.
The initial consultation is a conversation between us to explore and ask questions and see how it feels. It provides an opportunity to tell me why you are seeking support now and anything specific you are looking for help with. I will do my best to answer any questions that you may have. It also lets you decide if you feel like I am the right person for you to continue with for regular sessions.
Online - Understanding that balance looks different for everyone, I also offer online therapy sessions through Google Meet. This flexible approach ensures that geographical distance or scheduling constraints don't prevent you from accessing the therapeutic support that can restore your equilibrium. Initial Assessment and Individual Ongoing Sessions : £45 per session
Accessible Support: Limited reduced-rate spaces available for students and low-income individuals - please enquire about current availability
Session Times: Normal working hours are 9am - 5pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I also offer early morning and weekend appointments online by prior arrangement.
Payment Options: Payment by bank transfer - payment link provided
Cancellation Policy: 48 hours' notice ensures fairness for all clients


In our sessions, you will have the dedicated time and space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We will work together to gain new perspectives, identify unhelpful patterns, and develop practical coping strategies that you can carry into your daily life. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth and positive change, and my purpose is to support you on that unique journey.
Taking the first step can often be feel like a big decision or difficult. I remember how I was feeling when I decided to seek support through counselling. I wasn’t sure where or how to start or what I really needed. It was a bit of a leap of faith into previously unchartered territory and I remember how uncertain I felt.
Deciding to seek support is the initial step. The first step along the way towards growth, healing and improved mental and emotional health so you can live your life fully accepting all of who you are.
